2005 Columbia Valley Merlot
LaVelle Vineyards is proud to announce the release of our 2005 Merlot. The 2005 fall season resulted in a harvest in which the fruit was ripe with abundant sugars and balanced acidity. The grapes were gently processed upon arrival and fermentation began. Hand punchdowns were done twice per day, and the new wine was pressed off fifteen days later, settled, and racked into barrels. A balanced regime of French and Hungarian oak aging ensued for seventeen months. Prior to bottling, the wine was cold-stabilized and then coarse-filtered. Our Merlot was bottled August 22, 2006
This is a medium-bodied Bordeaux. Upon opening, our 2005 Merlot exhibits hints of oak vanillins that extend to the palate. Subtleties abound after ample breathing, beginning with a fruity nose and a fine, rich varietal bouquet. The Bordeaux presence graces the palate with hints of plums, chocolate, and cherries. This is a delicious, supple, fruity wine, ready to be consumed now, although its tannic structure will enhance the wine as it ages.
